FAQ
Here are a few thoughtful questions about coaching, how the process works, and how it can support you in finding your unique rhythm and taking your best next steps.
Whether you’re new to coaching or simply curious to learn more, I hope you’ll find a little clarity here. If your question isn’t included, feel free to reach out to me and ask away. Good questions matter in coaching, and exploring the answers is often where meaningful change begins.
1
Who is this coaching for?
I work primarily with adults in midlife and beyond who are navigating meaningful life transitions including career changes and planning, relationship shifts, grief or loss, health challenges, caregiving roles, unplanned retirement, and questions of identity and purpose.
Many people come to me simply knowing that something needs to shift, even if they can’t fully name it yet. Often, they’ve spent years holding everything together for others and are now asking themselves, “What do I want for this next stage of my life?”
2
What kinds of transitions do clients bring to coaching?
People come to coaching during many different life transitions: career changes, retirement, grief, health challenges, caregiving, relationship changes, or becoming an empty nester. Sometimes the shift is subtle and may be a feeling that life no longer fits the way it once did. I often work with people who are rethinking priorities, adjusting to unexpected change, or trying to reconnect with who they are now - and what matters most moving forward.
3
How is coaching different from therapy?
Therapy often focuses on healing past wounds or managing mental health conditions, while coaching is more focused on clarity, integration, and moving forward in meaningful ways. In coaching, we work together to identify small, realistic goals and explore supportive ways to move toward them, one step at a time.
Margot Coaching is best suited for individuals who are emotionally stable and ready to reflect, reconsider options, and take thoughtful, intentional next steps in their lives.
4
What happens in a coaching session?
Coaching sessions are thoughtful, collaborative conversations that create a productive and safe space for reflection, finding clarity amongst any mind clutter, and making plans for forward movement. Together, we explore what you’re navigating, identify what matters most, and work through obstacles or patterns that may be keeping you stuck.
Coaching is active and practical. During the session, we work together to identify meaningful goals, explore ways to create change, and develop realistic next steps that feel manageable and aligned for you. The pace is always guided by what feels right and supportive for you in the moment.
5
Can coaching help with grief?
Yes. Grief may be part of what brings you to coaching. While coaching is different from therapy or grief counselling, it can offer supportive space to reflect, process change, and consider what comes next. I often describe my role as a “thinking partner”; a professional who helps you make sense of where you are now while exploring how you want to move forward after loss or major life change.
6
Do I need to have a clear goal to start?
No. Many people begin without a clearly defined goal. Part of the work is making sense of what feels unclear or unsettled and identifying what truly matters before taking any action.
7
How long do clients usually work with you?
Coaching is flexible and tailored to your needs, while offering a supportive framework to help you stay present and move forward with intention. Some clients benefit from 3–6 sessions every other week, while others prefer ongoing monthly support over several months.
Coaching is typically shorter-term and more future-focused than therapy. Early on, we’ll decide together on the pace, structure, and session frequency that feels right for you.
8
Will I be given advice or told what I should do?
Coaching is not about giving directives or advice. Instead, it helps you access your own insight, trust your wisdom, strengthen your decision-making, and move forward in a way that feels aligned to your values and sustainable.
9
What outcomes can I expect?
Clients often experience greater emotional steadiness, clearer priorities, renewed self-trust, and a more grounded sense of direction. This may show up in practical ways, such as feeling more confident in decisions, navigating difficult conversations more steadily, or setting clearer boundaries. The focus is on finding meaningful, lasting clarity rather than quick fixes.
10
How is progress measured in coaching?
Progress is typically experienced as increased clarity, confidence, and the ability to move forward with intention. It may also include powerful shifts in how you approach decisions, relationships, and change.
11
Can coaching be combined with therapy or other supports?
Yes. Many clients work with both a therapist and a coach at different times or simultaneously. Coaching can complement other therapeutic services, provided the roles of the providers are clear and the approach of the supports are working together to help you feel more … like you.
12
What if I’m going through something difficult right now?
If you are in acute distress or crisis, therapy or clinical support may be more appropriate. Coaching is best suited for those who have some stability and are ready to reflect and move forward.
13
How do referrals work?
Referrals to Margot Coaching are very welcome from former clients, therapists, medical or legal professionals, or faith leaders. All prospective clients begin with an initial conversation to ensure that coaching is appropriate and aligned with their current needs.
14
How much does life coaching cost?
The cost of coaching depends on the kind of support you’re looking for and what feels most helpful for you right now. We can talk through pricing options together during your free Discovery Call, with no pressure to commit.
That conversation is a chance for you to ask questions, learn how coaching works, and determine whether working together feels like a good fit and the right investment for you right now.
15
How do I know if I’m ready for coaching?
You may be ready if you are not in acute crisis, are open to reflection, and feel ready to approach your next steps with intention and patience, rather than urgency.
